Officials: CT government, utilities deter more than 10 million cyber attacks per week.
The numbers are staggering as the Connecticut government and the state’s major utilities are being hit by cyber attacks at a rate of more than 10 million times a week.
A special report concluded that, while state government and utilities continue to face more frequent and sophisticated penetration attempts, they are being met with “adequate defense capabilities.”
“These threats are real. Just to put it in perspective; at Eversource, we estimate that we get about a million knocks on the door from these threats every day,” explained Senior Vice President of Eversource Jim Hunt.
Hunt added that the attacks are coming from foreign countries and not only threaten the electric grid, but also customers’ personal information.
The cyber security review says that despite the hacking attempts, there were no known cyber breaches during the past year.
